In a widely reported £72k slight, the Heritage Lottery Fund has refused to fund a piece of art dedicated to the memory of Wallace and his defeat of the some English soldiers in far off 1297.

The artist is no doubt upset at the refusal by the National Lottery to fund his artwork. Many Scots are up in arms also and there are calls to boycott the Lotto.

The Times screams “Braveheart falls victim to politics of referendum” with quotes from the likes of Tom Devine saying that it imperative that the site be marked in a suitable manner.

Mind you, if they reviewed the crass statue recently erected in Aberdeen city centre they might breathe a sigh of relief at such a lucky escape.

Next time you spend a pound, consider the end result.
