The Scottish chicken industry was today reeling as further industry wide cuts were announced. Scottish consumers now face the prospect of being unable to buy Scottish chicken in their local shops.
Today NFU president Nigel Miller said “This has all happened behind the veil of an aspirational Poultry Plan to provide consolidation to Scottish production and to grow it at the same time. In reality, in the last few months, the supply chain has halved … Scotland’s chicken growers have reached a crisis point.”
Angus – not his real name – from the Chicken Defence Group recently commented “Not many of us Scot’s eat chicken but given the big picture we might just do so in the future, mind you I have absolutely no idea what the NFU president means, maybe he’s on drugs. After all most poultry are addicted to a cocktail of vaccines to combat this and that disease.”
When asked to elaborate he confusingly told reporters “What’s guid for the goose is likely guid for us Scot’s unless you are chicken.”
Yet another reason to vote Yes.
